I was at a bit of a loss this morning, about what to use as my image. I have hundreds of photos of our dogs, all in the past now, sadly, that I could have used. Then I got to thinking about our present cohort of visiting pooches, of whom I have quite a few great head shots which would have been fine for the purpose. But, then I suddenly realised, I would need to make six or seven inchies if I wished to avoid creating the dreadful angst which surely would have been visited on the owners of those animals whom I did not choose to represent...the explanations that may have been required...I was momentarily caught on the horns of a terrible dilemma! (See the Compleet Molesworth)
Then I had a (fairly) brilliant thought...I have been tidying in my craft room today, rearranging things to make them more accessible, tossing out heaps of junk, filling the compostables bin and setting a few useful but unneeded things aside to go to the local Red Cross shop. Part of this spree included rearranging my recycle books during which I came across my {reproduction) copy of "A Dog Day", a damaged book that I have on occasion used pages from when making journals, because of the lovely creamy thick paper and the humerous images.
What could be more perfect? I found a torn page that I could cut out just the dogs' head...the page where he frightens the canary by staring hungrily at it...attached it to the inchie mat and matted it up with a square of caramel card. Inchie done and no-one feeling left out!
For those who don't know the little book, it was written in 1902 by Walter Emanuel and illustrated by Cecil Aldin. It details, in the form of a day diary, the mischievous exploits of a dog living in a Victorian household...eating the kittens food, rolling in mud after a bath, stealing from cooks pantry and being sick under the visiting aged aunt's bed, on and on until the day finally ends...You get the idea I am sure.
I am making some baby themed gift cards for a friend in Queensland at the moment, which is stretching my creative powers a tad...I don't have much in the way of baby themed resources and am having to think a bit hard about how to achieve a satisfactory outcome. At the moment I am playing with a couple of silicon moulds I have rarely used and some white paperclay...and also some embossing...these little cards promise to keep me busy for a while.
Earlier, I had quietly hoped the lads would find themselves beavering away in the kitchen by now, preparing a delicious meal for us all...It must have been a very faint hope! I have just been informed by them both that they have nominated today as a "get your own dinner" day...I must remember this trick for the very next time I don't feel like cooking! I can see it becoming a regular, and frequent, event! One is never too old to learn...
That's it, I am off to poach an egg!
Bye for now,
Di
