I have been having a real mixed media fix lately, and have enjoyed playing with all of the paints and mediums I have available to me, but I think there is little point in continually producing items that have no-where to go...my trouble is that I have way too much time on my hands and I cannot bear to simply sit and do nothing. I rarely watch TV and I find myself eventually tiring of reading...did I just write that? I didn't think I would ever came to such a pass!. It seems throughout my younger life I could never find enough time for reading, how one's life changes over time...
Anyhow, these last few journals will probably mark the end of the line for a while...I wish I had an online store to dispense with them and recoup some costs, but that idea never seems to come to anything...I will see over the next few weeks as I do need to resolve the issue. I am supposed to be reducing my paraphernalia, not adding to it!
The two smaller journals are made from food product packets, one was a cornflour box, not sure about the other one, but they are of a similar size.
I coated the covers with paints and sealing medium until I was happy with the look and sturdiness of them, added a reinforcer to the inside spine and sewed in five signatures divided by flip out photograph pages. I made these little journals to document a discrete event such as a short break, a weekend away, a special occasion, that sort of thing, something that needs some journalling but with plenty of space for photographs as well.
The manilla folder photograph pages each have a pocket at their centre for storing receipts, pamphlets, booking records, boarding passes, postcards and other bits of ephemera that one collects to remind oneself of something special.
The next is a chunky little five signature journal with coffee stained paper. Because I made the cover using both the MMM Number 11 - Torn Strips technique, and also MMM Number 8 - Houses, I continued the house theme to decorate each of the signature covers, and of course, hearts (being where the house is, sort of thing)...
The last is a large album is a one-off, an A4 size journal, that in my childhood days I would have used as a scrap book, or nowadays I believe is called a glue book, for collecting ephemera of special interest...I made the pages with coffee stained A3 copy paper, the signature covers being made from map pages. It contains five fairly hefty signatures, each with a central envelope pocket and two other larger pockets.
Owing to the map pages it has an overall "travel" or "place" theme.
Here they are...
It is just a little notebook, one to cart around in one's handbag for personal notes, lists and reminders. I cut a window in the front cover to enable the insertion of a small piece of calico embroidery of my daughters cat, surrounded by his favourite plants, raspberry canes...he loved these as a kitten.
More of this one and the large blue and gold journal later...too many photographs here already!
I am also waiting on the order of magnets arrival to complete the place markers for each of these journals. They are all ready, just waiting for the magnets to be adhered in place before I can finish them off and add them to the projects. I always like to include one in my journals, along with a small envelope containing a documentation tag to allow the owner to record details of the journals purpose, commencement and completion, or other private details...
Bye for now,
Di
