I will just keep adding to this post from time to time as I work my way through the classes. The first topic was Faux effects and Kristina demonstrated faux metal embossing. I don't like to emboss on a single layer card usually due to the inevitable warping, but decided to follow along. I used a speckled slightly metallic heavy cardstock from officeworks for my cardbase, which held up better than some others I have tried. I used Kristinas' layout pretty much, and the outcome wasn't too bad...it is really really hard not to get embossing powder speckles around the image though. I don't like the effect much and if left to my own devices would punch the little silver circle out and attach it to another card, so it looks clean, but this is a class and a learning experience, so onwards and upwards...I did like the way the cardstock muted the ink colours and gave each dot a little texture.
I will, in future, stick to smaller faux metal attempts when using cardstock...mind you...there may very well be other types of material that would work better for this technique. Maybe some very light metal sheet...chip board...mmm...I can see there is more work to do on this technique...
