Pinterest has quite the array of whimsical and cute little examples of these delights. Added to this I do love to make boxes, particularly small ones, having recently been working out several designs of these to package and present decorated pins and journal dangles.
When I saw the mood board for Scrapbook Boutique with it's lovely red and white theme I was very tempted to make something...but...as I am NOT "doing" Christmas this year, apart from lunch with family and friends, making something Christmassy, despite the seasonal theme, was simply out of the question. See, I am being stubborn, determined not to get drawn in by surreptitious means, however delightful they may appear!
I left it for a while, got busy with my uni work and only remembered with a start yesterday...by a silly association of ideas...(it was my eldest grandsons' eleventh birthday, his favourite colour used to be red...dada! The SBB November challenge was back in the front of my flighty brain)...and just in time!
So, how could I not participate with all these positive prompts going off like fireworks. When thinking about what sort of project I should make, I decided to have a try at these cute little boxes, I had all the inspiration on my workbench after all!
Using heavy weight (240gsm) card for both the base and sleeve of the box, I put these together from the measurements I had just worked out for one of my gift boxes.
The finished base measures 8.5cm x 5cm and the sleeve 5.2cm x 8.7cm.
I cut the mats and embossed berry from scraps of the card stock, adding craft foam for dimension.
I added a felt calyx to the little berry and when searching in my Dots Box for the little green dot for the base, I found the last remaining wooden ladybird from an ancient purchase rattling around in the bottom of the container..it's time had come!
I made the sentiments in Word, using text box functions and a font called Leftover Crayon, as I simply did not have the appropriately sized and suitably worded stamps...but while looking through my stamps I found many that I can use on future projects...my head is now buzzing with ideas so I think a little intense focus may be starting to build.
I like that these little boxes can also carry, (apart from messages, sentiments, tiny notes, cash, etc.), but also small gifts such as jewellery...and what small doesn't like receiving a tiny box, and big smalls also?
I must away, I have an assignment to hone, slice, sharpen, whittle, grind or file into a descriptive piece of writing from my present total of almost 600 words into an acceptable 250 word limit piece...I take two out and find three more to add...it is very hard work to become succinct!
