I posted another video last night after a day long and very tense battle with the video programme/computer/my ineptitude...the first of a four part journal making exercise. I hope it turns out ok...wish me luck.

,
Today has been a lovely warm day...lots of things around the house got accomplished...Chris mowed the lawn, Tim realigned an old Ikea corner shelf unit that has been surplus to requirements for quite a while but was too good to throw out. I had hoped we would come across someone who would take it away, but like the TV cabinet, it seems that there is no-one wanting furniture at the moment. It's too late now for the corner unit, Tim has pulled it apart and put it back together to provide a new home for our printers...we have four, three in fairly regular use and one that is only used very occasionally. Also we have a fairly comprehensive stable of external hard drives, so they will live on the printer tower also, clearing bench space for more useful activities. The lads have come up with a plan to get rid of my large computer desk (another piece of furniture discarded.. maybe I WILL get to a minimalist lifestyle before I die), and split Chris's double desk into a workable space for us both, with Tim having to hot desk or use the laptop. It will be great to have the space tidied up and the spaghetti junction of cables rationalised, (see, I am still an optimist!). My sewing machine also shares this space and it can get quite cosy in here at times. It is Fathers day here in Australia, so after an exciting morning, the chaps are having a quiet afternoon snoozing and watching the football. Sarah and Karina visited this morning for morning tea...she made lovely lemon tarts and I made raspberry friands and cheesy muffins which we all tucked into with great gusto, them my brother arrived for lunch. After a short breather we set to again, but just chicken and salad this time! Last evening I completed my fourth video...they are getting easier as I learn more of the processes involved but it's a very interesting exercise and I am enjoying the exercise enormously. My computer got bogged down under the weight of my editing and Chris graciously handed me onto his machine. However, his movie making software is far more sophisticated than I had been using, so I was faced with the additional burden of learning how to make the video and apply the audio etc all over again on his quite different system. However, we survived. Chris and Tim then kindly defragged, degagged and debagged my machine ...I applied a few aperients (got rid of "stuff" off the desktop onto EHD's) and Bob's our uncle! All working smoothly once more. This video is about how I get rid of some of the distress ink over the lower part of the water drop image ( from my Water Effects 1 stamp set, by Ryns Designs), in order to give the effect of light passing through the water drop and increasing the appearance of visual dimension. . View here or on You Tube I made a card with the slightly water stained card front I produced in the video, adhering the panel to a silver card stock card base and stamping a small "miss you" in the bottom right corner. Here is a close up... I fussy cut the water coloured Distress Inked DRD leaf image which I had stamped on heavy water colour paper. I then tried to remove the ink from the drop images with plain water, again with little effect. I expect it was the paper being more absorbent that created this effect, as using heavy Neenah cardstock produces good effects simply by applying water. To resolve this I added a tiny strip of white gel pen to each drop across the bottom of the image as well as adding the white dot at the top to make it pop. Well, that's about it from sunny Hobart, for today. Time to think about supper! (just kidding!)
Bye for now, Di A new video, a REALLY simple one! I am getting the time down nicely...this was meant to be a quick tip and the original recording was nearly 16 minutes! Got it down to about three and a bit. The content is ho hum, but I was impressed with myself! Watch it here or on You Tube... Went for another walk today...it is lovely and sunny, the larks are filling the sky with song, the ducks were clamorous for food offerings and Spring is just bustin' out all over...(June doesn't fit in with this hemisphere!) Managed to get some uni reading done today...mid semester break so I have no excuse not to catch up on lost time...they have made next weeks course work available early so obviously we are expected to get on with it...the mid semester thingy must therefore imply a break for the lecturers!
Better go, the chaps have requested macaroni cheese for supper, so I had best look as if I have their interests at heart, when really all I want to do is make another video! Bye, Di A new day, a new card and a new video...things are getting a little easier on the video front...I guess practice almost always makes things easier. Still a long way to go before I sleep though! View here or on You Tube... I also made a second card for a dear friend in Sydney, one of that group of folk I do not see nearly enough of now I'm not so mobile...I made it like a previous card with an instagram-like frame and five little Stacy Yucula creatures, as it is from all the immediate family living here in Tasmania... For this card I created a Distress Ink background, stamped the creatures with Tuxedo Black, coloured each with Derwent Coloursoft pencils and fussy cut them out. Edged them with a black marker and adhered them into the backed frame piece with some Tombo and low profile adhesive dots.
The banner and sentiment pieces are SSS dies. The card is a 7x5 size using Bazzil Taffy and the gingham check mat paper is PTI Soft Stone patterned paper. I used fun foam to pop up the frame for a little dimension. That's about it for today, I have a pile of uni work to catch up on, spending hours with the video issues has eroded my very good intentions to keep abreast of things, another classic example of the adage regarding urgency overriding importance I guess. (Maybe just another prevarication on my part ;) Bye now, Di |
